I am a relationship based dog trainer. My work focuses on improving the relationship between a dog and their handler so training becomes clearer, more effective and easier to maintain in everyday life.
I work with the individual dog and their handler to make sure everything is tailored. No two dogs learn in exactly the same way, and no two households function the same, so training needs to reflect both.
We start by looking at anything that may be getting in the way of progress. This might include gaps in communication, unclear boundaries, environmental factors or day to day management issues. Addressing these early often makes a significant difference on its own.
From there, we build motivation so the dog actually wants to engage and work with their handler. When the relationship is clear and the dog is motivated, training becomes far more effective and progress accelerates.
Once that foundation is in place, the scope of what you can achieve together is wide. Skills become easier to teach, behaviour becomes more reliable and life with your dog becomes calmer and more enjoyable.

I’m Sam, a qualified Professional Dog Training Instructor with The Guild of Dog Trainers and a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP). My background includes almost a decade in the dog food industry, shadowing respected trainers, and working hands-on with dogs of all breeds and temperaments.
Alongside running The Good Dog School, I work with operational Search and Rescue dogs. These are real working dogs trained to find vulnerable missing people. This gives me practical experience building reliable behaviour in unpredictable, high-distraction environments. The same clear, results-focused training principles I use for working dogs are the foundation of the training I provide for family pets.

Boomer is my Scott-type American Bulldog and working Search Dog. I adopted him at eight months old after he’d been abused and then abandoned. With consistent training, structure, and patience, I rehabilitated him from a difficult start into a confident, capable dog.
He went on to make history as the first American Bulldog in the world to qualify as a fully certified Search Dog. Today, he assists the police in locating missing people as well as playing an important role in my training sessions. Boomer helps me teach young dogs to be calm, gives small dogs the confidence to be brave, and keeps older dogs social and engaged. His steady, reliable temperament makes him an excellent role model, and working alongside him helps many dogs progress faster.
